Track record

Eight major projects, concept to operations.

Twenty-five years delivered from inside the client's organization: the first-of-a-kind facilities, the safety record they were built with, and every phase each project was carried through. Most project people are either front-end people or execution people. Very few have taken projects from concept selection through FID and on into construction and operations — which is what makes the judgment at either end worth buying.

Proof

Fifteen first-of-a-kinds, delivered from the client's side of the table.

Advisory credibility is not something you claim. It is a record of first-of-a-kind facilities that had to be engineered, permitted and built with no precedent to copy — and the safety record they were delivered with.

Energía Costa Azul LNG Sempra Infrastructure · Mexico · Project Director
  • The only LNG project in the world to reach FID in 2020 — in the middle of the pandemic.
  • The world’s first onshore LNG facility to use the APCI DMR liquefaction process.
  • The world’s first LNG facility to use a hybrid seawater and air cooling process.
  • The world’s smallest onshore footprint for a liquefaction train — which significantly increases the construction challenge.
  • Mexico’s first LNG liquefaction facility.
  • Only the second LNG facility anywhere built with the liquefaction train inside a live operating plant, designed for simultaneous liquefaction and regasification.
Woodfibre LNG Pacific Energy · Canada · Senior Project Director / VP Projects
  • The world’s first net-zero emissions LNG facility.
  • The world’s first LNG export facility driven electrically by renewable hydroelectricity.
  • The world’s largest onshore mega-modules.
  • Canada’s first LNG liquefaction facility to reach FID.
  • Canada’s first project with an Indigenous government, the Squamish Nation, acting as environmental regulator.
Hong Kong Offshore LNG Terminal CLP · Hong Kong · Project Director & Engineering Director
  • The world’s largest offshore LNG terminal, at 7.1 MTPA import capacity.
  • The world’s deepest subsurface pipe installation by jetting.
  • Hong Kong’s first LNG facility, feeding two power stations totaling 10 GW.
  • One of only three offshore LNG import projects in the world.
Gladstone LNG Santos · Australia · Project Manager, reimbursable scope
  • One of the world’s first modularized LNG facilities — 111 modules fabricated in the Philippines and shipped to Curtis Island.
West Kimberley Power EDL · Australia · Engineering Manager & Lead Commissioning Engineer
  • Australia’s first large-scale diesel-to-gas power transition.
  • A complete small-scale LNG chain: liquefaction at Karratha, road tankers, and four remote regasification terminals with gas-fired power stations.
Kwispaa FLNG Steelhead LNG · Canada · Engineering Manager, then Project Manager
  • Named designer on the Kwispaa FLNG patent — four 6 MTPA floating liquefaction facilities with a 1,000 MW CCGT power station.

24 million work hours without a lost-time injury — 10 million at Energía Costa Azul, 14 million in Hong Kong. Both were under my direct accountability, and on both I set up the client-led safety program before FID and then implemented it through execution. This is not a total across every project on this page. It is the record on the two where the safety system was mine to design and mine to deliver.

What sets this apart

I have been the name on the accountability line.

Most capital project advisers have reviewed megaprojects, audited them, or run a function on one. Very few have been the single named person accountable for delivering one.

Sole project director · EPC execution
  • Energía Costa Azul LNG~$2B · Mexico · 2020–2023
  • Woodfibre LNG~$6B · Canada · 2024
  • Hong Kong Offshore LNG Terminal~$1.5B · FEED through EPCIC · 2018–2020
Sole accountability · FEED and FID readiness
  • St Charles Clean Fuels~$4B blue ammonia and hydrogen · two parallel FEEDs, reporting to the CEO · 2024–2026
And the result

On Energía Costa Azul and Hong Kong I also set up the client-led safety program before FID and then implemented it through execution. Across those two projects: 24 million work hours without a single lost-time injury. Designing the system and then being accountable for delivering against it are the same argument — the safety record is what that argument looks like in practice.

Answerable to the joint venture for every part of delivery — the estimate, the schedule, the contractor, the regulator, and the safety of everyone on site. That is a different qualification from assessing a project from the outside. It changes what you notice in a schedule, which risks you take seriously, and whether you are willing to tell a board something it does not want to hear.

† Santos Ltd — Operations Brownfield Projects is early-career operations and brownfield project work. It is shown here because it is where the operations-phase experience comes from, but it is not counted among the eight major projects. Two marks against St Charles FEED: two parallel FEEDs run for separate work scopes. Sectors span LNG export, FLNG, FSRU, FSU and offshore LNG import platforms, blue ammonia and hydrogen, gas power generation, and greenfield and brownfield projects — delivered across Australia, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Hong Kong, Malaysia, France and the UK.
